Accompanists

When you play with an accompanist there is a certain protocol you should follow. Here are some guidelines:

• Agree on the accompanist’s fee up front and pay promptly at a mutually agreed upon time.
• Always communicate clearly and punctually.
• Set up a schedule of rehearsals leading up to your performance.
• Discuss details such as what you will wear for the performance and coordinating entering and exiting the stage.
• Don’t expect your accompanist to coach you. You are the soloist and you should be the leader. Of course, if there are collaborative musical decisions to be made, they should be involved, but that’s different than them telling you what you should do.
